Nilgiri College specially for B.Tech(food), established in 2069 A.D. and affiliated to Tribhuvan University, is set up with the vision of bringing in the global standards of Food Science College to Nepal and produce scientific manpower of high caliber. Nilgiri College a pure food technology college established by the team of young and enthusiastic food technology professionals and guided by renowned and experienced faculties with the clean objective of providing top class education and practical exposure at an affordable fee.
It is located in the heart of the dynamic sub-metropolis, Itahari-5. The college has well-equipped, well-furnished and spacious laboratories to facilitate the smooth conduct of practicals and research works. The library is full of books, magazines, journals and other reading materials. Besides, students can enjoy e-learning in the well-equipped computer laboratory with 24 hour internet facility which can be used by the students in the specified time. It has space enough for indoor games such as table tennis, volleyball etc. Various modern methods of teaching through LED projector, regular talk program seminars, project work are common.

Food science is the end-to-end study of food, including raw materials selection and harvesting, composition and development, production, preservation and safety, packaging and storage, through to end-user preparation, consumption and sensory analysis. Food science also includes food-involved scientific fields such as food microbiology, food chemistry and the engineering of food.
Although food technology is generally included as a part of food science, its distinct definition is the practical application of the food sciences to the development and production of food. Food Technology is the application of food science to the selection, preservation, processing, packaging, distribution, and use of safe, nutritious, and wholesome food.
Food technology courses attract a large number of students all over the world including Nepal, because of its novelty as an educational course and also because of the growing demand for food technologists in today's health conscious world.
Admission for B. Tech (Food) will generally opens in August. Students willing to get admission must pass the entrance exam conducted by TU.
Students with +2 science (Physical or Biological) groups with minimum 2nd Div. / C grade score or Diploma in Food and Dairy Technology are eligible for admission.
B. Tech. (Food) is based on the annual examination system and is a four-year course with a total of 2000 marks. In each subject (except Dissertation work), 25% marks will be allotted to the practical work carried out in laboratories & pilot plants.
